Can anyone help me find a lawyer?

by admin on September 17, 2010

I need a lawyer that charge no fee until they win the case for you. I need a lawyer because i was wrongly fired, discriminated against, all while having my character defamed. I live in Bronx, NY and was wondering whether anyone knows a lawyer that deals with that kind of thing, but do not charge a fee unless you win the case. I cannot afford to pay a lawyer at this time.

You want a lawyer that will work for a contingency fee. That is, they do not get paid unless you do. They get paid a percentage of the money that you win (usually 30% to 40% depending on your case). It is very common for attorneys to work with this arrangement. You will need an attorney in your state… look at the link below. You can find referrals at the state bar website. You can also look to your nearest law school. I know that there are several in the NY area, but I do not know specifically which is nearest to you. If you look at the nearest law school’s website, you should be able to find student attorneys who can also help you (they will work under the supervision of a licensed NY attorney). You can also look in your local phone book or online in your area. Good luck.

I hope you have proper documentation of all the things you want to fight. You need a pro-bono lawyer. Start looking in the yellow pages….

It isn’t worth it, I’m afraid. You might well get someone to take it on a "no win, no fee" basis, but even if you did, the fact that you’d gone that route would probably make you virtually unemployable. Life’s not fair, but I think this is one instance where you pick up the pieces and try to get on with life.

Go to court, and discuss it with a judge…they can appoint a pro-bono (free) attorney to represent you.

Who does afford to hire a lawyer? I had to get a loan and pay it back! The best is to look in yellow pages and start calling. When you call, ask them if they know of a lawyer who does what you are looking for if they don’t themselves. Do a little work and it’ll pay off. Good luck.

The best way to find a lawyer is to call the state bar where you live. In NY: http://www.nysba.org/ or you can look up lawyers on MartindaleHubbell, http://www.martindale.com/

When you call a lawyer’s office, ask if the lawyer takes cases on a contingency fee basis (they don’t get paid until you will your case).

Good luck.
